The Office of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment provides district leadership for Durand Area Schools in each of the following areas:
Aligning Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment within the Durand Area School District is an ongoing process involving all members of the school community. In addition to the primary three focus areas, this office provides oversight of the following:
Common Core State StandardsOn June 15, 2010 the State Board of Education adopted the Common Core Standards, a set of rigorous Career and College readiness standards. Michigan is one of the 48 states that have adopted the Common Core. During the 2012-13 school year teachers in Michigan have begun using the Common Core Standards. It is anticipated that students will be assessed on the Common Core Standards during the 2014 school year. Mike Flanagan, State Superintendent of Public Instruction, stated “The Common Core Standards are built on the best state standards. These standards provide the content; they aren't telling states or school districts how to teach these content standards."The Michigan Department of Education websites details the Common Core Standard initiative and its impact on K-12 education.
